In 2001, a small group of volunteers from Reto a la Esperanza of Spain, launches its action on the infamous streets of Athens. In 2003, Reto Hellas - Challenge of Hope, legally established as a non-profit association and starts its multiple operations throughout Greece. The creation of the international organization Reto, dates back to the end of May 1985 in Cantabria, Spain, where its founder, a man of Christian principals, began offering aid to drug addicts in the area. As this model of assistance was successful and the problem was widespread, centers began to be established throughout Spain and later in Russia, the Balkans, and throughout Europe.
